About AI

This webpage contains a selection of articles and preprints on the role and impact of artificial intelligence (AI). The list is not meant to be exhaustive and mostly reflects my morning readings on the arXiv over the last years.

Attitudes towards AI (and technology in general) span a broad range, which I roughly classify as follows:

  1. 🟦 enthusiast: the machines will solve all our problems

  2. 🟩 solutionist: there are problems, but law and technology will fix them

  3. 🟨 pragmatist: it is just another tool, I’ll use it moderately

  4. 🟧 critic: the problems and risks outweight the benefits

  5. 🟥 luddist: the machines will replace us: let’s smash them before they do

Most of the articles collected here lie between 2 and 4, but some express more radical points of view.

I am uncomfortable with the way some enthusiasts have embraced AI. Their articles are thus accompanied by a ◼ dark side advisory note.
