TO MAKE SUGGESTIONS ON FURTHER IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SERVICE/INSTRUMENTATION : Gabriele Baj, Ph.D. |

· The Confocal Microscope Core Facility started its official activity at the end of the year 2008. At the beginning of 2010 already 12 different Laboratories from different Departments and 3 Extramural Users gained access to the Confocal Microscope Facility of the University of Trieste · We are currently evaluating collaborations with further external users and companies. · The using time in 2009 was of 180 hours for UNITS users and extramural users |

For all the services offered in 2009, the Microscopy confocal facility was able to collect € 1240. The sum collected will be entirely devoted to the maintenance of the lasers, microscope and computer according to the following priorities: 1. Increase RAM memory to Microscope Workstation : DONE* 2. Increase HD storage capability in Microscope Workstation : DONE* *To achieve these small improvements we used 120 euro from the year 2009 budget 3. Add a 407nm laser line to add capability to detect common DNA dyes: FUTURE (approx costs=Inquired) 4. Add a bright-field camera for transmitted light acquisition : FUTURE (approx costs=Inquired) 5. Change exhausted lasers: (hopefully far) :FUTURE (approx costs=Inquired)

We plan to increase the knowledge of present and future Confocal Microscope Facility users organizing: · A course on methods of sample preparation for confocal microscopy. · A course on confocal microscopy image processing. Any income determined by these courses will be added to the Confocal Budget |
